  1.      Born shortly after the end of the Revolutionary War in Kinderhook, New York, Van Buren proudly called himself the first president born under the flag of the United States of America. With Jackson's support, Van Buren ran for president in 1836. At age fifty-four, the man known as O.K., for Old Kinderhook, became the eighth president of the United States.
